It all seemed so simple!
Separating the two characters would be so easy... so I thought. I was a little too impatient working "Dales" face and cut away much too much wood and left me with a dilemma.
For more than a week I contemplated removing "Dale's" head and starting over.
Taking off the little guys head was a dreadful undertaking. My new band saw made short work of the deed.
I just couldn't allow "Dale" to be shown without his head. So, to be sensitive to anyone who might not be prepared for such a sight I "covered" it!
The surgery didn't take very long. A block of wood attached with a wooden dowel and glued overnight and the patient was in fine shape the next day.
I know, it's pathetically large but it worked.
As I began to get into the details I encountered another tiny problem.
"Chips" left ear was rendered too small! Yikes, can I get it together for this piece
So, once again I had to perform another "surgery!"
I worked on the faces and never did seem to get them to my satisfaction. I went with what I had.
I wish I paid more attention to color mixing when I was in school. Now the colors are giving me trouble, ugh!
I've learned a couple things carving "Chip n Dale." I like carving the piece out of one piece of wood. However, I'm going to give a second thought to carving two characters out of one piece of wood next time. And, I think I'll take out a book on color mixing!
